It's already fall but the heat is at an all time high here in the city! Usually during the winter I don't have much trouble with my perfume wearing off but these days, there have been so many moments during the day when I wish my perfume would last longer. The internet does offer a lot of suggestions, but some of them seemed impractical and unnecessary. So I went out and tested some of their tips during the course of this week, and narrowed it down to 5 practical ways to make your perfume last longer! Let's get started!
1.) Dab Vaseline on your pulse points before you spray your perfume on.
So when I first saw this tip, I was hesitant to try it out because it seemed unnecessary. But after I dabbed a little bit of vaseline on my wrists and neck before spraying my perfume on, I found the fragrance to have lasted longer throughout the day! I just dab a little on my finger, then my pulse points, and then moisturize my lips while I'm at it... why not? It's a win win situation! The ointment will hold the fragrance on your skin longer than if you were to spray your perfume on dry skin... which leads me to my next tip!
2.) Moisturize your skin before you spray your perfume on.
Making sure your skin is super moisturized will really help in your fragrance lasting longer on your skin! Apply an unscented lotion after your shower before you spray some of your perfume on. Oily skins help retain the scent of your perfume significantly better than dry skins. This tip also helps me to keep my skin moisturized at all times! And if you naturally have oily skin, consider it a blessing when it comes to your scent lasting longer!
3.) Know where your pulse points are.
Knowing where your pulse points are, is also really effective when wanting your perfumes to last longer on your skin. The pulse points are the areas of your body where you can feel the heart rate through the blood vessels close to your skin. They're also the warm areas of your body so the heat releases the scent of your perfume effectively. I like to just do dab on my wrists, behind my ears, and along my throat. There are suggestions out there to also spritz some on your mid drift and ankles, but I found these areas to be unnecessary.
4.) Do NOT RUB your wrists or neck together but SIMPLY DAB.
When I was younger, I used to rub my wrists and neck together after spraying on my perfume. Luckily, I didn't do this for too long! But it is imperative to NOT rub your wrists together or else it will force the top notes of the scent to disappear quicker. When you rub, it break downs the molecules of your perfume, making it smell completely different than intended. So if anything, I just like to very lightly dab my wrists and neck so the perfume isn't dripping down my arms and neck.
5.) Store your perfume properly.
I know I've talked about this briefly in my previous post, "The Shelf Life of a Perfume" , but it is very important to store your perfume properly! Don't store it in the bathroom or right by the window because heat, light, and humidity will break down the perfume and lessen the quality of the fragrance. Instead, store them right on top of your shelf (away from the window) or on top of your vanity in a dry and cool place.
This is why the tip of applying your perfume right after your shower was a bit impractical for me. They say that spraying some of your perfume in the bathroom before your body cools down, is effective (which I don't doubt!) but because I store my perfume in my room it was an unnecessary tip for me. ANOTHER TIP: Store your perfumes on a tray or cake holder for decorative purpose as well!
And there we have it! These are the 5 tips I personally found effective for me. I hope you've enjoyed them all and let me know which ones worked for you!
